Ground improvement

Rapid progress of geotechnics and geo-engineering in recent years (both in terms of specific research of the subsoil and foundation techniques) allowed the extremely fast development of the civil engineering. More and more often takes place the necessity of planning objects in areas that previously were excluded from the investment due to the complicated geotechnical conditions. These include the floodplains or wetlands, where the construction involves the possibility of stability loss and long-term settlements.

Currently, realization of investments in areas with unfavorable geological structure with presence of weak soils is only possible through modern foundation technologies.

Strengthening and stabilization of the subsoil are necessary if the investment processes relate to the soils with low shear strength and high compressibility.

Team of our professionals with years of experience offers execution of the design of the ground improvement and method of the construction foundation based on the prior geotechnical investigation and analysis of the construction parameters.

Subsoil is strengthened to increase its load bearing capacity and load resistance, and also to reduce its settlements and water permeability.

There are many methods of the ground improvement and the use of appropriate depends on the existing soil‑water conditions, characteristic of the investment and environmental conditions.

General applications:

  • .Strengthening of the subsoil under roads and railways – reducing the differences of the total settlement and guarantee the stability of high embankments
  • Strengthening of the subsoil under landfill areas – transfer of the concentrated loads, reducing settlement inequalities to the limit values
  • Use of extensive areas under the airports and ports - ensuring the capacity of the embankments, elimination of the impact of long-term settlements
  • Strengthening of the subsoil under construction of commercial buildings - transfer of the concentrated loads (caused by pad or strip footings) and transfer of the uniformly distributed loads caused by floors, as well as reducing settlement inequalities to the limit values.

In order to systematize, general division of the methods of the subsoil stabilization can be introduced:

a) primary consolidation

b) reinforcement and deep compaction

c) petrification, lithification

d) soil stabilization

We perform individual designs of the ground improvement with various technologies and our aim is to find the optimal way of foundation ensuring long structure service life and at the same time we always have in mind not only the effectiveness and economic methods but also the impact on the environment.
